What Others Think of You Is None of Your Business – And Why You Shouldn’t Care Anyway
Why do some people make it in their online businesses or in reaching their life goals, in general?
One reason is they don’t care what others think of them. Not to say they are hardhearted, disconnnected or lacking in compassion. Far from it – they care deeply. Unless you care deeply for others, you will not succeed in this business, because it is the love of other people that will catapult you to the top.
But to not care what others think is critical. If someone is just getting out of the starting gate in online marketing – most likely the people closest to them and even total strangers will demand they get back inside that gate and not dare to try to unlock it. It’s similar to the diet saboteurs who seem to come out of nowhere with fattening foods and temptations, the moment someone tries to improve their health and weight by eating differently. People try to keep things the same – including their friends, family and strangers. Change is frightening and the average person is almost a zealot when it comes to trying to keep those around them the same. If they change, they might upset the entire worldview of the other – and that is frightening to many.
The successful person is driven and knows intuitively to ignore these voices, no matter how loud they are. They are willing to let those who do not want to change stay where they are. They are compassionate towards then, they do not trample them, but they are unafraid to go forward and to ignore their insistence that they remain in the status quo. They break away from the herd and pursue their dream or passion -whatever it is.
They also know that dreams alone are not enough to get where they want to go. They change – and in business they realize that personal growth and development is 90% of the ingredients needed for their success. If a decision must be made between watching TV and developing themselves intellectually, physically, emotionally or spiritually, they choose the latter. This may be unacceptable to the peers, but they push forward anyhow, knowing they must tread this path to get where they want to be. And they go with a passion; they give themselves the permission that others would deny them.
Personal development – what does it mean? All the inspirational speakers, authors or “new” ideas are not at all “new.” They are as old as the human race, they are biblical and haven’t changed an iota over the centuries. It doesn’t matter where the person begins, they will always return to these same principles if they are to succeed.
They must be willing to do whatever they have to do, without harming another. They realize that giving it all away is the only way to keep any of it. They put others needs before their own, knowing however that unless they have spent the time growing themselves, they cannot meet the needs of others. They “love their neighbors, as they love themselves” not MORE than they love themselves. Loving themselves gives them them capacity to love others. It is an eternal paradox – but it never fails.
Only those who walked their own road, ignoring the protests of others that they turn around, will make it. And they will find others who have heard the same call, but they will never be afraid to step out on their own and honor their own instincts. These are the characteristics not only of those who succeed in their own lives, but those who have changed the world.
