2010 – A New Decade…….Where are we headed? The Recommendation Age
Happy 2010 all – and I do hope it is happy for you? I had a wonderful 2 week Christmas vacation…….re-energized and time to get back to work.
So – where are we headed online? Where is the homebased business going this decade?
With the constant (almost daily) leaps in in technology, anybody can build a business online. But how is it done? With the overwhelm of information, people are looking for a leader – someone who has blazed the trail before them and who has a passion for the things they are doing.
What is amazing is that it is truly no longer about a product or service that you promote. It is about you – who you are, what you share, how you relate and build relationships. It is about giving, not taking. In all of social media it is about giving, not taking. And the blog is the nerve center for giving, not taking.
It’s about finding your niche, your passion. For me, it is about leading other Baby Boomers and disabled folks through the morass of this Internet jungle and learning how to build a profitable business from home – one that will last a lifetime. And it will – because your “product” is you.
Of course, it matters what you promote – if you are pushing scams, junk and some of the space trash orbiting around the Internet, that will soon become attached to you and you will be known for that. That is why it is important to learn what is profitable and what is not from someone you resonate with and who has walked the road before.
And with so many people giving a glimpse of who they are – we can choose whom we choose to associate with and learn from.
The decade is promising for us all – because we are all unique individuals with something to share with our fellow travelers.
And probably the best news for all of this – not only for Baby Boomers and the disabled who may find themselves unable to work outside the home – is that despite the economy, this decade offers greater promise to us than ever before. No one needs to be a techie or spend a fortune – the playing field has been leveled for us all.
Here’s to a great decade for us all!

I think you make a strong point by stating that the product is “you”. How true. I’m not sure when “we” became the focus of our business, as opposed to the product, but I do find that interesting.
Thanks for the comment, Karen. I think in some ways we are going “back to the farm” age, where everyone worked for themselves. It wasn’t til the Industrial Revolution that we all started working for companies.
But now intead of the butcher, baker, candlestick maker – all of which still exist, we also are of the information age with constant updates but we need that human connection to know and trust the people we work with or buy from.
