Forget the Gurus – Just Get Online Baby Boomers

They’re out there, hiding behind every web search -- you know who I mean….the gurus, with $997 courses in hand, promising to finally reveal THE secret that will make you a millionaire on the ‘Net in 6 months or less.  I’m not knocking education, but there comes a time when you just have to jump into the pool or pick up your towel and go home.  Baby Boomers have an opportunity to make their Swan Song more fun, engaging and profitable than any previous retiring generation.

At a time when only a human ostrich could maintain that the economy will soon turn around and Boomers will not have to work until they are past 70, Internet Marketing holds the keys to a goldmine of opportunity never before available to the older contingent of our population.  Help is out there -- and you don’t have to buy every course, DVD or book before you begin.  Just Do It, and take back control of your financial destiny.  It’s an entrepreneur’s world again, and that world is online.  C’mon in -- the water’s fine.

Thank you Mary for sharing this true post and video! There are so many people chasing after the dollar and buying up coarse after coarse. Some people are so busy buying coarses they don’t even have time to learn what they’ve bought and apply anything.

I know you’re a true leader because you’re interested in adding value to people without a fee.

    You are a success!

Bravo Mary Anne! You are right–the water is fine. It has absolutely never been easier to build a profitable web presence than today. Web 2.0 has made the internet accessible to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Having a mentor or a coach is the key to knowing what kind of training you really need to succeed. Otherwise, you may find yourself spending more time and/or money than you have to spare in the process of building your online business.

Great article. I agree. The recession is taking a toll on the baby boomer generation. I can say that because I am slightly older than that generation. But I don’t feel that old. And I have found a way to transition from corporate America.

Yes, many have seen their retirement savings hurt by the recession – the stock market crash and falling home prices. But I feel that most who have been hurt will recover.

Most are well educated, aggressive, and creative. Many have had successful careers. They are also accustomed to giving – giving to help others.

Mary Anne, like you say, baby boomers have acquired so much wisdom over the years. They don’t need some fancy, high-priced guru to tell them what to do. However they do need some guidance.

Many will find the work from home, internet network marketing industry as a great alternative for utilizing their abilities and helping others. I know they will succeed.

    Mary Anne,

Well said…The “gurus” have realized, they it is easier for them to pitch the next ecourse than to actually do it. All of these courses promise to make you money while you sleep.

Everybody knows that you have to put in a lot of hard work, no ifs ands or buts.

    Thanks for sharing…

PS Pet peeve with the internet marketing group is when they say “my good friend.” Who cares if they are friends and who knows if they really are friends.

Good, sound advice MaryAnne. It’s real easy to get caught up buying the lateste and greatest “how to” courses and tools, there comes a time to jump in and start swimming, that’s where the real learning commences.

The Internet can be foreboding for those who have never used it, but those who are willing to learn will benefit greatly. I hope your warm invitation for baby boomers to include the Internet in their retirement plans will be accepted by many.

Mary Anne thanks for sharing this with me you have shed a lot of light on a subject that many are concern about.

In todays economy we don’t need to buy every thing that comes are way in fact you explain here that it even can be a trap when it comes toward your business.

Ms Nagy, you are exactly right about the opportunity before baby boomer entrepreneurs, both practicing and prospective. With the growing trend toward baby boomers seeking to become entrepreneurs in their retirement years rather than following traditional retirement patterns, there will be more and more guru’s seeking to separate them from their money rather than helping them to make money.

There are many sources on the Internet, often free, to help baby boomer entrepreneurs get oriented to the challenge before them. Mastering things like social media, understanding key words, and being able to do on-line research will carry new entrepreneurs a long way. This is true for people looking to create physical businesses as well as on-line businesses.

Thank you for sharing your insiights with our fellow baby boomers who are about to embark on the path to entrepreneurship.
