Integrity Matters!

August 15, 2010
By

Yes, Integrity matters and if it doesn’t matter to you, your life, family and career mean nothing.  Especially in the world of Internet Marketing where so many wolves abound, it is time to be certain that what you are doing on line (or offline) in your business is inline with your personal values and what you stand for.

What legacy do you want to leave, one of life being all about you or one of life being about others?

What can you take with you when you die – absolutely nothing.  What do you leave behind?  Your legacy – how people remember you.

When my dad died suddenly at the age of 65, I was 27 years old and heartbroken.  Dad was a simple man, a small entrepreneur in a small business – never wealthy or famous – but I knew him as one of the most kindest, loving people on earth.  At 55, I still miss him and always will.

Dad was a first-generation American.  Both of his parents came from Ireland on boats during the potato famine.  And they were dirt poor.  When his father died when my dad was 14, he had to drop out of school after 8th grade and start working to support his family.  He never, ever, ever, ONCE, in his lifetime complained about that.  I learned a LOT about integrity and not becoming a whiner from him. He was also one of the most incredibly self-educated men I have ever known and an absolute expert on history, especially the Civil War.

What amazed me, since we led a simple life (although my parents managed to send all THREE of us children, not only through college, but graduate school by sacrificing (an old time word you don’t hear much of today), was his funeral.  We lived simply.  Dad’s business, while it was running, was small – no millionaire was he – there were no grand parties, events, mega-vacations.  But we were happy.

What amazed me, sad as I was in the funeral procession was looking back at the seemingly ENDLESS line of cars.  It went on forever.  I met people I never knew existed.  But they all came out to pay their last respects to my dad.  I had NO CLUE how many lives he had touched.  To this day, I have never seen a funeral procession the likes of which followed my father to his eternal resting place.

WHY?  Because he touched people and he touched them so deeply they HAD to pay him their last respects.  WHY?  Because he left a legacy – one which touched me and left and imprint on me forever.

Is Integrity important – in life, relationships and business…………………….you better believe it is.

What you’re saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I also love the images you put in here. They fit so well with what youre trying to say.

Good luck getting people behind this one. Though you make some VERY fascinating points, youre going to have to do more than bring up a few things that may be different than what weve already heard. What are trying to say here? What do you want us to think? It seems like you cant really get behind a unique thought. Anyway, thats just my opinion.

For one time, I simply desired that people today would take a step back in order to view the larger snapshot. We have a tendency to get misplaced in many the specifics that we forget about pertaining to what honestly does matter. Which is why though the prior commentary higher than do show exceptional specifics, these are off a wee bit.

Mary Anne: Funny how certain bits come to us on the ‘net at just the “right time.” I’m blessed to have read your post & while it speaks of your dad’s integrity & the legacy he left, it speaks even more to the idea of how he instilled that set of principles in you, his daughter … & how you are determined to share this with others. Thanks for sharing with me. ; >

You are fortunate to have had a father who lived by example the value of life and of hard work. I was so blessed as well. It sickens me to read all the “vulture” success posts on social media sites. Everyone is out for themselves it seems. There’s no better way to live life than by investin in the lives of others. Your dad did just that, and so are you!

I love a post that reminds me of what is so important in life. Your father sounds like he was a wonderful man with all his priorities in the right place. I agree with you a life of integrity and love is a life worth living. Those left behind behind benefit far more from that kind of legacy than any material things that can often create discord.

    God bless your Dad :)

Mary Anne, congratulations on having such a wonderful father. My father is much the same way and I admire him tremendously. Thankfully, I still have him here–he is 86 next month and in good mental and physical health.

Your father, I am sure, is still around you and is very proud of you.
